Description

In 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas student survivors in Parkland, Florida created March For Our Lives, a national organization addressing gun violence and mass killings. Students marched in Washington D.C. and 880+ sister marches across the U.S. in 2018, and we are doing so again on June 11th, 2022. This group exists to gather and inform Alabama advocates who are interested in joining our local March for Our Lives event in Birmingham. Let's lift our voices for policy change. Let's come together as a local and national community to honor the lives in Uvalde, Buffalo, and everyone impacted by gun violence. EVENT DETAILS: March for Our Lives - Birmingham Kelly Ingram Park June 11th, 2022 - 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Students, family members, teachers, etc. all welcome! Feel free to stop by just for a few minutes or the whole time! 🙂 If you'd like to help with the event, please message us! We greatly appreciate any support! MISSION STATEMENT: Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes. Our schools are unsafe. Our children and teachers are dying. We must make it our top priority to save these lives. March For Our Lives is created by, inspired by, and led by students across the country who will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings. In the tragic wake of Uvalde and Buffalo, politicians are telling us that now is not the time to talk about guns. March For Our Lives believes the time is now. If not now, when? After each tragedy, what message as a society are we sending to children by refusing to even consider policy changes? On June 11th, the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets of Birmingham, AL, as a sister march, to stand with the Uvalde students, demanding that their lives and safety become a priority. The collective voices of the March For Our Lives movement will be heard. The mission and focus of March For Our Lives is to demand that a comprehensive and effective bill be immediately brought before Congress to address these gun issues. Making school safer does not mean giving teachers guns. We need policy reform, such as strengthening background checks and 21 year old age limits. No special interest group, no political agenda is more critical than timely passage of legislation to address the gun violence issues that are rampant in our country. Working together to protect the futures of children who are at risk of dying when they should be learning, playing, and growing should not be partisan. Every kid in this country now goes to school wondering if this day might be their last. It doesn’t have to be this way. Change is coming. And it starts now, inspired by and led by the kids who are our hope for the future. Their young voices will be heard. Stand with us on June 11th. Refuse to allow one more needless death. MARCH FOR OUR LIVES!
