Our journey begins at CINEMA DETROIT with THE WICKER MAN (2006), in which Nicolas Cage portrays a sheriff investigating the disappearance of a young girl from a small island. He soon discovers there's a larger mystery to solve among the island's secretive, neo-pagan community. There is a pivotal scene involving bees, which is where Tim and Nicole from DETROIT HIVES come in….bees just don’t behave that way! After the film, they'll share their story and we'll learn the REAL STORY OF BEES, the marvelous creatures who are responsible for one in every 3 bites of food you take, and how YOU can help them thrive. Then we’ll hop on a bus for an exclusive TOUR of the actual DETROIT HIVES. Your return trip to Cinema Detroit is included. This presentation is part of SCIENCE ON SCREEN®, a series pairing film screenings with lively scientific discussions — an initiative of the Coolidge Corner Theatre with major support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Due to the nature of this event, we are unable to issue refunds. In case of inclement weather, tickets will be good for a rain date TBA. Quick reminder, as has been our policy since November 2021, proof of vaccination (photo ID + vaccination card or photo of same) and masks must be worn over nose AND mouth while you are inside the theater.
