Description
I'm very sad to have to post this girl, she's incredible. Unfortunately, I am moving to a new state to take a job, and reptiles her size are not permitted. I highly recommend doing all of your research on the species, and I will be very thorough in vetting out her new keeper. She has only had premium care since I got her about 2 years ago, and I require that the new keeper will give her the same. Persephone is my 3 year old 25% Kalatoa Super Dwarf reticulated python. She is a Phantom morph which gives her the dark purplish coloring, which really makes the iridescence, that rainbowing like an oil spill, really pop. There is some anecdotal evidence to suggest that Phantom morphs are less defensive, and more docile than other morphs or wild types, but I can't confirm that. The Kalatoa bloodline is the smallest growing of the island locales, with some males only reaching 5 or 6 feet. Currently, she is right at 8 feet long, and based on her age, feeding schedule and genetics, I expect that she will likely top out around 10, MAYBE 11 feet. This is significantly smaller than mainland retics, particularly in diameter. and in my opinion, represents the absolute perfect size for a keeper to have a big snake that can be kept safely by one person. She is kept in a 6x2x2 melamine enclosure that I have absolutely dialed in, maintaining perfect temperatures and humidity. The hot side used a Ceramic heat emitter on a thermostat, and the cool side uses a full spectrum UVB bulb, both covered with mounted screens. She has only ever had fresh filtered water, and I have only ever kept her on cypress mulch substrate. In terms of temperament, she has been the absolutely best snake I have ever kept. She is docile, active and inquisitive. All of this makes more a wonderful display animal that is impressive and beautiful to watch. She does have an extreme food response, like any other reticulated python, but her tap training is very effective. A few taps on the head and body and she is good to go during handling. I hold her and let her hang on me with no issues ever, she's honestly a blast. Has never been defensive or struck at me before. She does get a little huffy sometimes, but, hey, we all have our bad days. She does extremely well in the 6 foot enclosure, and makes full use of her hides, but, like a lot of retics she will rub the class and try to press into little cracks, which every now and then can cause slight inflammation or leave a mark, which usually goes away after a fresh shed. I combatted some of this by mounting foam weather stripping in some places so that she's at least rubbing something that can't cause any harm, and you can stay on top of this by giving her free roaming time outside the enclosure, and redesigning her enclosure from time to time to keep it interesting to explore. Persephone will come with her enclosure, everything inside that you need to keep it dialed in, her holding tote, and her hook. She feeds on XL rats, once every 3-4 weeks. Depending on how long it takes to rehome her, I may do a substrate change as well. As you can see from the novel I wrote, I care about this animal very much. I wish I could take her with me. I expect anyone interested in her to have snake keeping experience, and will have studied reticulated pythons specifically to be ready for the responsibility. I have a lot of money invested into her, and her rehoming fee of $2,000 is extremely reasonable when you consider what I paid for her (more than $2,000), the cost of her enclosure and all of her supplies. It will also ensure that the right person will be the one to keep her next. I am open to payment plans for the right fit. Thank you very much for looking, please contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to meet her.
