Gunshot Victim Knocks On Homeowner's Door: Sheriff

FRANKFORT, IL — A 25-year-old man is expected to recover after police say he showed up on a Frankfort Township homeowner's doorstep early Sunday. The homeowner told police a man they didn't know knocked on the front door of their home in the 7000 block of West North Avenue around 6:20 a.m., saying he needed help and had been shot in the right elbow. When police arrived, the man who had been shot was no longer at the home. Deputies searched the area but could not find him. While they were still at the scene, deputies learned that a 25-year-old man had arrived at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with a gunshot wound to his right elbow. The man told police he was leaving a large house party in the area when he was accosted by another man who attempted to rob him at gunpoint. He told police he was shot in the elbow while running away. The victim did not specify where the house party was held, according to police. Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said the 25-year-old was taken to the hospital by a friend, and his gunshot wound is not life-threatening. The man told police he did not know the man who shot him, but police believe the incident was targeted and not a random robbery. The shooting remains under investigation.
