Description
Shelters and rescues are OVERFLOWING with dogs right now! If you are considering breeding your dog (even just one litter), PLEASE volunteer at your local shelter. See what's happening! Adopt don't shop. Btw getting a puppy off craigslist is most likely supporting a backyard breeder. If you "adopt" from these people you are helping encourage further breeding. I know it's hard to not take that cute little puppy! It's harder when our community has to make the tough decision to euthanize the "less adoptable dogs" (usually caused by human behavior) because there is no better option and the quality of life is falling. I am the hopeless optimistic! I believe there is a home for EVERY animal. Those that know me well, know my favorite are the fearful, fear aggressive and outright aggressive. I know what that means for my heart when the time comes for the tough decisions. I also have the ability to see the big picture and while I may not agree with all these decisions, I can understand why. Sometimes I'm blessed enough to hold the baby in the end, taking a piece of my heart with them. Yes, BLESSED! Only some people will understand this.
Lately we have a lot of turn over at work. Most times when people decide to leave them say the same line in one way or another; "I just can't do it anymore". This line of work (no matter the department) takes it's toll. Now more then ever!! Please be kind to shelter and rescue staff and volunteers. Please don't support backyard breeding or "accidental litters"! Please adopt is you can. If you can't adopt, consider fostering or volunteering. There are tons of positions to volunteer in! Everything from enrichment, grooming, adoptions, paperwork, call center, dog walking, all kinds of cleaning, laundry, dishes and more!!
Our community needs help!! These amazing animals deserve better!
