Please come out and join us for a special symposium on the State of Black Masculinity, Fatherhood & Wellness in the 21st Century featuring both local and national Black entreprenuers. This event will include a discussion with critically acclaimed authors, Jaer Armstead-Jones and Scott Steward, on the "Wellness of Black Men and the State of Black Masculinity". A panel and Q&A will follow the discussion, where the authors will be joined by Portland-based father and businessman, Alvin Johnson, as well as Bahia Overton, the Director of the Black Parent Initiative - to further examine the "Role of the Black Father Figure in the 21st Century". This event is sponsored by Trauma Informed Oregon. Featured Moderators: Christopher Scott - A social worker born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He has had many roles in his social work career, but his expertise and focus is working with young men of color. Christopher started a podcast in 2018 to help navigate the social work field and his own career path. Royal Harris - As the Program Coordinator for the Multnomah County Health Department’s Male and Father Involvement program, Royal works to connect African American fathers with knowledge, skills, and resources. The program is part of Healthy Birth Initiatives, which uses culturally-specific strategies to support pregnant African American women and their families before and after the birth of their child. ABOUT WELLNESS WEEK 2022: In celebration of the Juneteenth Holiday, Black Men's Wellness is honored to offer a week of holistic health activities for Black men, youth, and the local community. This week will include workshops and activities that promote physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health & well-being. This week-long celebration will reinforce the strength and health of Black men, fathers, brothers, sons, and elders within themselves and their communities.
