MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A hit-and-run driver is sought in Manatee County after a man was killed trying to cross U.S. 301 early Friday morning, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release. Just after 12:30 a.m., an unidentified vehicle and an SUV were both traveling west on U.S. 301 near I-75. After hitting the man as he tried to cross the U.S. 301 travel lanes, the first vehicle drove away from the scene. The SUV, driven by a 30-year-old Coral Springs man, also hit the pedestrian. The man, who hasn't been identified, was brought to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Troopers are seeking the hit-and-run driver of the initial vehicle that left the scene. Not much is known about this vehicle, but authorities say it was possibly blue. The crash remains under consideration.
