KILLINGLY/NEW LONDON, CT — A 20--year-old New London man is facing multiple gun charges, among others, following a traffic stop in Killingly earlier this week. According to Connecticut State Police, Jovan Drea Kennedy, of 190 Broad St., New London, was stopped by police on Mechanic Street in Killingly talking on his cell phone while driving. Kennedy was "subsequently found to be in possession of, among other things, a firearm without a valid pistol permit," reads a state police report on the incident, which took place at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. "The accused failed to comply with officers' directives and resisted arrest," reads a state police report issued Thursday. He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit; illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle; possession of alcohol by a minor on a public street; carrying a dangerous weapon; interfering with police; disobeying the signal of an officer; failure to drive in the proper lane; improper turning/signaling; operating a motor vehicle while handling a telephone; failure to obey a stop sign; and operating a motor vehicle without license. He was taken into custody and release on $20,000 bond, police said, and will appear in Danielson Superior Court June 8.
