The SA Smart 2022 Challenge Finals will take place from 9:15 am - 2:30 pm at the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) David Monroe Education Center, on the campus of Port San Antonio. For this year's challenge, students will propose ways to responsibly use and manage the water resources available to our city for the long-term benefit of its residents. The SA Smart 2022 Challenge: Water From water management propositions to market analysis, San Antonio area students will compete in front of judges who are experts in water and business venture creation. 1st place winners will take home the Mayor's Smart City Cup. "Students competing in this year's challenge are presenting real, innovative and actionable solutions to tackle long-term water security," said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. "Sound planning from San Antonio's youth is necessary to ensure the future of our water is clean and abundant for generations to come." "The priorities of San Antonio are a great platform for learning, and especially for the kinds of 21st-century learning experiences that can help develop our future leaders," said Dr. Cliff Zintgraff, Chief Learning Officer at SAMSAT and Chair of the SA Smart Steering Committee. "Through these kinds of experiences, we can gather students and community leaders, and gather mentors, volunteers and resources from all sectors, to keep San Antonio a great place to live, work and play today and into the future." "The hard work these students have done for the SA Smart Challenge to tackle water challenges that are unique to our city is impressive," said Robert Puente, CEO & President of SAWS, Lead Sponsor of the event. "Their passion and participation will ensure continued leadership and a spirit of innovation in the water sector so future generations can enjoy safe, sustainable, and affordable water." This year's finalists feature teams from Harlandale Middle School, Terrell Wells Middle School, Keystone School, Krueger School of Applied Technologies, and JSTEM Academy. The competition continues to draw robust community partnerships in support. This year's SA Smart partners include the City of San Antonio Mayor's Office, the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), the San Antonio Area Foundation, SAMSAT, Communities In Schools of San Antonio, Port San Antonio, CPS Energy, Itron, Geekdom, City of San Antonio Office of Innovation, City of San Antonio Planning Department, EPIcenter, Education Service Center-Region 20, the Alamo STEM Ecosystem, and the Matthew C. and Catherine A. Reedy Charitable Fund.
