Description

Press release from the San Antonio Public Library: Christine Deffendall 24 May 2022 From boring office jobs to working for the first official spy service of the United States during World War II, Julia Child kept searching for her passion in life. When her husband's job took them to Paris, French food woke up her senses and her imagination. She collaborated with friends to write one of the most famous cookbooks of all time, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Tall, loud, and with a zany sense of humor, Julia Child created one of the first cooking shows on TV in 1962. She didn't mind making mistakes onscreen, she simply showed viewers how to correct them. She continued to do so until 1999, when she retired from television at the age of 87. Author Erin Hagar and illustrator Joanna Gorham showcase this American television icon in Julia Child: An Extraordinary Life in Words and Pictures. This press release was produced by the San Antonio Public Library. The views expressed here are the author's own.
