SUMMIT, NJ — If you're planning to fire up the grill this Memorial Day weekend, Summit Fire Department reminds everyone to take extra caution. According to the fire department, a grill placed too close to anything that can burn is fire hazard. Grills can also become very hot, causing burn injuries. Make sure to follow these safety tips below: •Keep grills at least 10 feet from buildings.• Never store propane tanks indoors, below ground level, or leave them unattended in a vehicle.• If there is a smell of gas while grilling, shut down the grill and have it serviced.• Keep grill cleaned of grease build up.• Dispose of charcoal briquettes by cooling in grill and removing to a metal container kept outdoors. More important safety tips can be viewed on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Facebook page or visit https://www.nfpa.org/.../Seasonal-fire-causes/Grilling for more information.
