PORTLAND, OR — A series of 10 shootings in Portland during a 24-hour period between early Friday and early Saturday left one person dead and another nine injured, according to police. The shootings began just before 3 a.m. Friday, when two people were injured in a shooting at Southeast 128th Avenue and Southeast Sherman Street that began with a physical confrontation. One person suffered life-threatening injuries and the other non-life-threatening but serious injuries, police said. One person was killed in a shooting around 6 a.m. Friday on the 7100 block of North Columbia Boulevard, according to authorities. Here is a timeline of the shootings: 2:57 a.m. Friday; near SE 128th Avenue and SE Sherman Street A group of people were involved in a physical confrontation before the shooting occurred, police said. The Enhanced Community Safety Team is investigating. 3:49 a.m. Friday; 700 block of Northeast 92nd Avenue A resident confronted multiple people attempting to break into a vehicle outside a house on the street, and the suspects shot at the resident before fleeing, police said. There were no injuries reported. 5:57 a.m. Friday; 7900 block of Northeast 21st Avenue A worker was retrieving a scrap metal dumpster from a parking lot and found a person inside the dumpster. When the person was asked to leave, a "disturbance ensued" and a shot was fired. The suspect fled, and officers were not able to locate them, police said. 6:03a.m. Friday; 7100 block of North Columbia Boulevard Police found a man dead in a home in St. Johns neighborhood with evidence of a shooting. Police have not released suspect information, and no arrests have been made. 12:25 p.m. Friday; Northeast 104th Avenue and Northeast Wygant Street Police responded to reports of shots fired at a camp and found evidence of a shooting but no suspects or victims. The shooting was a result of a disturbance possibly related to a stolen vehicle, police said. 5:45 p.m. Friday; North Midway Avenue and North Richards Street A verbal altercation escalated into a shooting at a camp in the area, according to police. A woman exiting a tent was struck by a stray bullet, and a person involved in the altercation also was shot. The woman suffered a serious but non-life-threatening injury, and the injured person involved in the argument was treated and released from a hospital, police said. 6:04 p.m. Friday; 3700 block of Southeast 71st Avenue Police responded to a disturbance in the area and found evidence of a shooting in the street. Investigators linked a victim who later walked into a hospital to the shooting. The victim has since been released from the hospital, according to police. 10:49 p.m. Friday; Southeast Holgate Boulevard and Southeast 113th Avenue A gunshot victim walked into a hospital and claimed they were robbed at gunpoint at Holgate and 113th and were shot when they struggled with the suspect over the gun. Authorities have been unable to locate a crime scene or corroborate the claim. 12:20 a.m. Saturday; 7000 block of Northeast 11th Avenue A 62-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound while sleeping in her house when a stray bullet from an exchange of gunfire in the street penetrated her home, according to authorities. The woman suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was treated at a hospital. Three unoccupied vehicles also were struck by gunfire, and police recovered 20 casings in the area. 1:06 a.m. Saturday; 4800 block of Southeast Hawthorne Street Two people were shot in a parking lot, and several area houses suffered damage, according to police. One victim suffered life-threatening critical injuries, and the other suffered non-life-threatening serious injuries. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest in any unsolved felony crime.
