POSITION PURPOSE: As a member of the Facilities team, this classification has two unique sets of responsibilities: GROUNDS CARE TECHNICIAN Working under the Facilities Director, this position is responsible for the maintenance and routine care of the 10 acre Downtown site, the 9 acre Westside Site, and the 3.5 acre Cemetery site. This position works in partnership with volunteers and other facility staff as required to identify, communicate and address maintenance and operational needs. Seasonal requirements are scheduled, equipment is maintained, and supplies are purchased to assure all three campuses are professionally maintained. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: • Maintain and repair all landscaping area including lawns, gardens, and flowerbeds. Organizing landscaping volunteer activities throughout the year to support in this effort. • Hardscape areas such as parking lots and sidewalks are blown down, raked, power washed, and shoveled as needed. • Lawns are mowed, trimmed and re-seeded as needed. • Landscape beds are weeded, raked, and all plant materials and trees are kept pruned as needed. • Fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides, herbicides are applied as needed. • All yard debris is collected, transported and composted. • Bark and top soils are replenished as needed. • Trees and bushes are monitored and potential safety hazards are quickly addressed. • Snow and ice are removed from parking lots and sidewalks using shovels and power equipment. Ice-melt chemicals are applied as needed. • Operating and maintaining garden and landscaping equipment. • Ordering supplies and equipment. MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of parish buildings including HVAC, plumbing, structural, electrical, painting, roofing and mechanical systems. The responsibilities of this position include routine maintenance, repair and monitoring activities associated with: • Plumbing, carpentry, concrete, electrical, sheet metal, landscaping, painting, and welding, etc. • HVAC motors, pumps, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, and mechanical systems. • Parish vehicles and tractors. • Commercial water, sewer, irrigation, fire alarm, security alarm, and fire suppression systems. • Researching and specifying appropriated parts, materials and supplies through local vendors and the internet. Technician must have a working knowledge and skills in reading and understanding a broad variety of documentation such as system diagram, schematics, manuals and instructions associated with the maintenance activities listed above. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Attend daily coordination meetings at the beginning of each shift and coordinate work activities with Facilities team members, vendors and others as required. • Requires prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, lying down, heavy lifting, work in confined spaces, and extreme heights. • Requires both indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions in both daylight and hours of darkness. • Responsible to report all unsafe, suspicious or criminal behaviors and situations which may require working directly with the police and other law enforcement officials. • This position may assist in new construction, remodeling, and general repairs of all parish structures. • Technicians repair and maintain all furnishings, and support all ministerial activities including set-ups and take-downs, and transportation of supplies and materials. • Technician responds to non-shift, after-hour emergencies such as snow removal or failure of critical systems. This position requires a valid Washington State Driver License, the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, and completion of an Archdiocese of Seattle Background Investigation. Technician performs other duties as assigned.
