This pet store is the equivalent of a "puppy mill" for exotics which is why the owner is in the news protesting the proposed federal law that will restrict transport of rare exotic animals across state lines (a law that helps prevent abuse of animals that are not meant to be pets in the first place).
You can observe her improper care of animals and birds by entering her store and seeing the completely inadequate cage sizes that she has them housed in. She currently has a single chinchilla housed in a cage that is smaller than what is recommended for a guinea pig. Chinchillas live in groups in the wild and it is not advised to have them live alone. Minimum cage sizes for chinchillas are 3x2x2 because they need to jump. Without being able to do so, chinchillas actually are prone to depression and this chinchilla huddles in the corner and looks about as depressed as can be.
Do not support this business but if you must stop in, tell her she that if she cannot care for her animals appropriately, she shouldn't be selling them.
