Apprentice Maintenance Personnel

Large apartment facility located on 16th Street NW with 1000+ units and various amenities is looking for apprentice personnel to assist the current facility department team. Responsibilities include: • Respond to minor apartment plumbing issues such as stopped-up sinks, tubs, and toilets by using drain plunger. • Maintain fan coil units located in apartments and other areas; clean coils, condensate pans/pipe, wash equipment interior/exterior, change air filters, verify thermostat operation. • Verify apartment smoke detector operation. • Verify apartment refrigerator operation, vacuum clean condenser coils. • Replace lights bulbs in apartment and common building areas. • Replace refrigerators/stoves in the apartments. • Pick up material at local vendors, company truck available. • Organize & maintain repair stock. • Ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted. • Ability to react and address emergency situations or special projects that may arise during weekends or evenings. • Foster positive relationships with residents and maintain good customer service. • Support carpentry and building/grounds as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Attention to details and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. • Ability to inspect areas of the building that will require a level of physical fitness, flexibility in tight spaces, and tolerance for roof height areas. • Requires the ability to lift and carry fifty pounds, i.e., heavy boxes, supplies, etc. • Requires ability to climb stairs and ladders to change light bulbs. • Requires being on hands & knees for extended periods of time. • Knowledge on how to safely use tools and machinery. • Requires exposure to a variety of maintenance products while performing duties. • Readily available for on-call emergencies. • Minimum 1 year experience in a maintenance position at similar residential facility preferred. • Must be fluent in English; bilingual (English, Spanish) is a plus; effective oral communication and people skills required.
