Meets

Portland OR

Description

Hi beloved future band members, I’m seeking a melodic bassist and drummer with: -Professional music skills -Strong work ethic and friendliness -Sensitivity to dynamics, rhythm, tone, and harmony -Basic theory knowledge like the number system, rhythmic subdivisions, and odd time counting -Knowledge of the notes on the neck, if the instrument has one. This is a brand new start up band, no paid gigs yet. The Vision: 2 - 3 piece instrumental band, moody and groovy, melodic and tight. Our performances will be well rehearsed and our songs will lend more towards composition than musical wankery. This project will be a band that will fits well on a bill with the likes of Chon, Covet, and Standards. They are most similar to the style of music I am currently writing. It will be fun to play and see live. Albums will create a sense of wonder, with familiarity, like a refuge for those who need it. Bass: I’d love for you to have lots of melody parts as well. Some of my favorite bassists are Michael Manring, David Adamiak, Evan Brewer, Victor Wooten, and Bryan Bellar. Interest in technique and complexity is very much appreciated, with groove sensibility. Drums: I would love a super tight lock on parts between drums and guitar, some of my favorite drummers are Forrest Rice, Nathan Camarena, Pat Skeffington, Matt Halpern, Blake Richardson, and Matt Gartska. Me: (he/him) Guitarist 28, full time musician, focused and stoked. It may be easier to just scroll through my Instagram to see what I’m currently doing (@forestbaileymusic): some tapping, chord melody playing, altered tunings, mostly fingerstyle but with rock guitar tones. I’ll be focusing on the electric guitar and song compositions. You will have lots of room to bring your own styles and flair into the mix, in fact I’d love for you to be a big part of the creative process! Although this incarnation of original music is new, I have over 10 years of writing predominantly instrumental music and am actively composing new music for this baby. Ultimately I intend to take a leadership role in the band, but I am not a micromanager by any means. I want to cultivate a creative space where we all feel safe to provide each other with honest feedback in order to be the best musicians we can be. If you’re someone who does not regularly and naturally pursue their personal highest level of excellence on your instrument, this is likely not the band for you unfortunately. I also expect bandmates to not have disruptive habits such as drinking in excess, poor/indirect communication, or general unreliability. I currently do not have a practice space, so ideally one of us already has access to a space where we can be full volume. With an emphasis on tightness as a band, regular rehearsals will be a requirement later. Right now, I am looking to coordinate 2-3 hour rehearsal at least once every two weeks. Once we get this thing off of the ground, I am willing to invest in a practice space. Please provide a background on yourself, like years playing/performing/writing experience, previous band experience, and any other skills related to music careers. I look forward to hearing from you!
