Description
Join us for a tour of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute LEED Building Tour at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute. In July of 2020, the building opened adjacent to the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute. Connected to the medical school and research institute by an enclosed elevated walkway, this 140,000 square foot research institute serves as a new model for biomedical and behavioral science. The tour will focus on the campus integration that includes bike storage, EV charging and native planting palettes. We will discuss the innovative solution for rainwater storage and look at the rainwater harvesting system that provides a 60% water reduction over baseline projects. We will also see and talk about the building’s exterior materials and finishes as they reference the Virginia Tech standards, including the use of signature “Hokie Stone,” while also establishing an aesthetic relationship to the existing Health Sciences and Technology Campus.
