ANNANDALE, VA — An Annandale woman died from injuries on Wednesday after she was struck by a car last Friday, the Fairfax County Police Department said.
The driver of a Nissan Sentra lost control of her car shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20 after she dropped food and spilled a drink inside her car, police said Wednesday. The car crossed the center median in the 7200 block of Maple Place in Annandale. The driver then crossed over a sidewalk and drove into a parking lot, striking four people.
One of the four people, Eileen Garnett, 83, of Annandale, was taken to the hospital last Friday with injuries considered life-threatening. Garnett died from her injuries Wednesday morning, police said.
The four people had gathered in the parking lot at 7263 Maple Place to discuss a community project in the area, according to the FCPD.
The other people struck by the car — two women and a man — were treated for injuries not considered life-threatening. Both the driver and a passenger in the vehicle, two women, were also taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.
Fairfax County Police are still investigating the fatal crash. Details of the investigation will be presented to the Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Office for review, police said.
