Officers Help Save Distressed Person's Life At Hubbard Park: Police

MERIDEN, CT — Two Meriden police officers are being credited with helping to save the life of a potentially suicidal person Friday morning at Hubbard Park in Meriden. Officer James Decrisantis and Corporal Ray Ouellet responded to Hubbard Park around 11 a.m. on May 20 on multiple reports of a person who had insinuated that they were going to end their life, according to police. "Corporal Ouellet was first to arrive and able to identify the person's vehicle with a clearly penned note which he believed to be a suicide letter," police wrote in a post on Facebook. "Officer Decrisantis arrived and both he and Ouellet wasted no time searching for the individual. Within moments, Corporal Ouellet located the distressed individual who was seated, quite literally, at the edge of a perilous cliff. "Corporal Ouellet, a newly trained Crisis Intervention Team member, veteran officer, and city councilor, immediately began employing his calm manner of speech which clearly had an impact on the individual. After several minutes of discussion, Corporal Ouellet and Officer Decrisantis were able to assist the individual away from the potentially lethal drop. "Had it not been for Corporal Ouellet's peaceful and compassionate disposition there is a very good chance that this individual may have succumb to their insecurities."
