To commemorate Juneteenth, Spirit Freedom (formerly Free Spirit Freedom) in coordination with the Orange County Historical Museum and the Northern Orange NAACP, will hold an afternoon program entitled, "Sacrifices."
The event will take place on Saturday, June 18th, at 2pm, at the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church.
Free and open to the public, attendees will explore the trauma, struggle, and triumph and achievements of African Americans through performances, storytelling, and discussions of little known Hillsborough figures.
This event also will feature the acclaimed "Say Their Names" public art exhibit, designed and produced by Donn Young, Fred Joiner, Mike Ogle and Renee Price. Debuting at the Hillsborough Visitor’s Center during the 2021 Juneteenth celebration, the exhibit brings to light the truth of the Black experience in America since 1619. For 2022, the focus will be on the third panel that looks at the 20th century through to today.
Please note, parking is available near the church and in public lots in downtown Hillsborough.
We request registering for this free event, though walk-ins are more than welcome. Masks are also strongly recommended.
