Description

Composting with earthworms (vermicomposting) turns many types of kitchen scraps into nutritious soil amendments that have the potential to enhance the growth of garden vegetables and ornamentals. Using worms to process food scraps also reduces the amount of garbage that goes into our landfills, saves water and electricity that garbage disposals consume, and allows one to compost food scraps indoors year-round. Learn now to make your own worm bin during this 1-hour demonstration, with special instructions on the best type of worms to use, worm bedding, harvesting compost, and the appropriate food and organic waste materials. Tools will be available so that participants can bring their own plastic storage bin and put together a worm bin during the presentation. Information on purchasing worms locally will be provided.
