Press release from the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services: May 26, 2022 The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is pleased to announce that Evergreen Cemetery will be open to visitors over the holiday weekend, despite ongoing storm cleanup efforts. Fairview Cemetery will also be open this weekend. Visitors are advised that dangerous conditions exist at Evergreen Cemetery, including downed branches and storm debris. The City is working as quickly as resources allow to remove debris, including on gravesites. However, due to the extensive storm damage impacting roads citywide, the City does not expect storm recovery to be completed by the weekend. "We recognize the importance of this weekend for many of our families, both military and civilian, and we have prioritized the cleanup of our city cemetery and made the decision to keep it open in order to honor the families of the many men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice," said Mayor John Suthers. "We hope to accomplish as much reparation as possible in the coming days and ask for our residents' patience and understanding as we continue the storm mitigation." The cemeteries, operated as enterprises of the City of Colorado Springs, will be open for the Memorial Day weekend (Saturday through Monday). Evergreen's hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Fairview's are 6 a.m.–8 p.m. Evergreen visitors are advised to adhere to signage on the property and proceed at their own risk due to potential hazards. Also, visitors should not attempt clean-up on their own as, in many instances, debris is significant in size and unstable. During continued clean-up efforts, Evergreen Cemetery hours may vary over the coming weeks. Please contact the Evergreen office at 719-385-6251 for the latest information.
