ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — St. Louis Park resident Dr. Rahel Nardos is one of 24 people to earn the 2022 Bush Fellowship, the St. Paul-based Bush Foundation announced last week. According to the Bush Foundation website, the fellowship is a grant that allows accomplished community leaders to "go deeper in transforming their own leadership and drive large-scale change to make our region better for everyone." The fellowship is a flexible grant of up to $100,000 that goes to recipients in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota or one of the 23 Native nations that share the same geography. According to her profile on the Bush Foundation website, Nardos is the director of Global Women's Health at the University of Minnesota's Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility. In that position, and as a child with health issues growing up in Ethiopia, Nardos has witnessed how women around the world lack access to quality, respectful and timely health care. "(Nardos) wants to train the next generation of equity-minded women's health care champions and build trust between women and healthcare institutions," her profile states. "To achieve her large-scale change vision, she will acquire advocacy skills, pursue global health leadership and networking opportunities, learn how to elevate storytelling to improve outcomes in health care and deepen her mindfulness practice." According to the Bush Foundation, the organization will be accepting applications for the 2022 Bush Fellowship beginning on Sept. 1, 2022 until Sept. 29, 2022. Applicants must be age 24 or older. "Every year, the Fellows inspire us with their immense talent and even bigger ideas to make the region work better for everyone," said Damon Shoholm, grantmaking director for the Bush Foundation. "We're thankful for the chance to support their growth as leaders and their bold thinking to create large-scale change."
