WEST ST PAUL, MN — Thompson Lake in West St. Paul has officially reopened after a wastewater spill May 16, Dakota County said. The sanitary sewer valve failure released 70,000 gallons of sewage into the lake, the county said. Tests were conducted on the lake beginning May 17 by Metropolitan Council Environmental Services and the testing from May 23-24 and reported that the lake's E. coli levels have returned to a safe level for recreational activities, such as fishing, according to Dakota County. "We appreciate the public's understanding during this unexpected closure and apologize for any inconvenience," Dakota County said.
