1-55, Weber Road Detour Begins Soon, Temporarily Stopping Left Turns

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Local drivers who have become accustomed to turning left at the interchange at Interstate 55 and Weber Road will soon have to temporarily made adjustments as road work in the area continues. The Illinois Department of Transportation resumed work on the $47.9 million Weber Road project in April and announced then that beginning June 10, left turns at the I-55 interchange would not be permitted for two weeks. At that time, work will begin to install traffic signals and crossovers which will put Weber Road into the full diverging diamond configuration, IDOT officials said. Officials said on Friday that left turns will not be permitted at the interchange beginning at 8 p.m. on June 10 and until 5 a.m. on June 20. During this time, motorists are asked to follow detours. The overall Weber Road project is expected to be completed later this summer, IDOT officials said. The Weber Road project involves reconfiguring and widening the existing interchange into a diverging diamond design and adding a third lane of travel to each direction of Weber Road, between Normantown Road and 119th Street/Rodeo Road, IDOT said in a news release. The project also includes installing modernized traffic signals at the intersections of Normantown Road, Remington Boulevard/Windham Parkway, Rodeo Drive/Remington Boulevard and at the interchange ramps, as well as new LED lighting, improved drainage, a raised median and landscaping.
