NEW YORK CITY — A man died when his Mercedes sped off an elevated Bronx ramp, went flying through the air before and crashed into a house, police said.
The crash Thursday evening killed the man, 25, but left his passenger — a 28-year-old woman — alive in stable condition with a leg injury, NYPD officials said.
Photos from the crash scene published by the New York Post show a crumpled 2009 Mercedes Benz C300 in front of a Pelham Parkway West home.
A preliminary investigation showed the crash occurred about 6:57 p.m. along the New England Thruway near exit 14, when the lost control of his car while taking a curve on the elevated road, authorities said.
The car stopped when it collided with the house, police said.
The impact ejected the man through the car's rear windshield, causing trauma to his body, authorities said. Medics rushed him to Jacobi Hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased, police said.
The crash is still under investigation by the NYPD's collision investigation squad.
