BRANDON, FL —A Hillsborough County woman, Fontaine Fosco, received an award on Thursday in Tampa for her volunteer work at the Brandon Senior Center.
Fosco has logged more than 300 hours as a volunteer at the Center. She also coaches older adults who live with depression and guides them through steps to become more active in doing things they enjoy.
Fosco received a Do More, Feel Better coaching certification through the University of South Florida, according to a Hillsborough County news release.
The Hillsborough County Aging Services program recognized her volunteer efforts on Thursday when she received the 2022 Hillsborough County Elderly Affairs Day Volunteer Award on Thursday at the Oaks Senior Center, 101 E. Kirby St. Tampa.
Throughout the pandemic, Fosco helped get the word out to other seniors about virtual programs offered by the Hillsborough County Senior Centers.
"She is an incredible addition to the Hillsborough County Aging Services volunteer program and its mission to serve and enhance the lives of senior citizens in Hillsborough County," Hillsborough County Aging Services staff said.
Before the Center closed due to the pandemic, Fosco assisted with the Center's reception area, activities and anywhere else she saw a need, staff said.
If you are an older adult who has trouble understanding how to operate Zoom, Fosco teaches through the Center how to use Zoom.
"She is such a champion for the Center that she is seen as an ambassador. Ms. Fosco volunteers for nearly every one of the department's special events," staff said.
