Description
Little Italy and stone working are closely linked. The district lies below two beds of high quality sandstone. By the late 1870s, Italians worked in local quarries and used the products to fashion infrastructure, buildings, and monuments. Little Italy had more and retains more worked local stone than any other Cleveland neighborhood. Beautiful examples are to be found on thoroughfares and side streets as well as in neighboring Lake View and East Cleveland Cemeteries. Join Dr. Roy Larick, renowned archaelogist, for a unique and exciting one-mile walking tour through Little Italy CLE during which he will discuss the stone formations and explore the stone used in the buildings. Tour begins and ends at the Italian American Museum of Cleveland, 12111 Mayfield Rd., located between Presti's and Maxi's. Since this is a walking tour, we suggest wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water if necessary. This is a FREE TOUR, but space is limited. Be sure to reserve your spot today!
