Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce that Advanced Welding Technology students competed successfully in the 38th Annual South Carolina Welding Competition held at Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, South Carolina.
The students are under the direction of Jeff Ball, Chair for Academic and Workforce Development, Adjunct Faculty Ivan Johnson, Professor Brian Muldowney, Professor Jay Owens, Professor Jim Pratt, and Professor Jacob Satterfield.
The students placed in several categories, including:
Jordan Gridley, 3rd Place, Category 2 Shielded Metal Arc Welding on Vertical/Overhead TEE JointsNyle Hill, 3rd Place, Category 4 Shielded Metal Arc Welding on Carbon Steel VEE Groove PipeDavid Salgado, 4th Place in Category 3 Shielded Metal Arc Welding on Carbon Steel in the Vertical/Overhead Positions on VEE Groove PlateNoah Michael, 3rd Place in Category 6 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding on Stainless Pipe 45% position – 6G HGTC students were among the 25 participating students representing five (5) technical colleges from across South Carolina to compete. All four competitors will graduate with an Advanced Welding Technologies Certificate at the end of the summer.
"I'm very proud of all of our student competitors and the hard work they dedicated to this competition, as well as the technical skills, professionalism, and sportsmanship they demonstrated," said Jeff Ball, Chair for Academic and Workforce Development.
