GREENWICH, CT — There will be increased police presence around the Greenwich Public Schools District at least for Wednesday, following the shooting in Uvalde, Texas that left 19 students and two teachers dead at an elementary school. Superintendent of Greenwich Public Schools Dr. Toni Jones sent a letter to families on Tuesday night. "Our hearts go out to the families impacted by another senseless and unimaginable shooting. These past few weeks have been filled with terrible news of violence across the entire country and just like you, I am devastated with feelings of frustration, anger, and sorrow," Jones said. "I want to assure our families that our security staff, along with our incredible Greenwich Police Department, will continue to do everything possible to keep your children and our entire staff in a safe environment," Jones added. "We consider this to be the most important aspect of our school system. Expect to see an increased, but not intrusive, police presence around the District tomorrow." Lt. Martin O'Reilly of the Greenwich Police Department said the decision to add more officers was made out of an abundance of caution. The department said on Facebook there are no threats to the town. "The Greenwich Police Department offers its sincere condolences to the victims and their families harmed by the horrific events at Robb Elementary School, in Uvalde, Texas. Our sympathies extend the entire community affected by this tragedy as well," the department said on Facebook Wednesday morning. "We recognize that following tragic incidents such as this leaves many feeling unsettled and Greenwich is not exception... We continue to ask residents to be watchful and to report anything suspicious on or near school properties, or throughout town." Residents can call the GPD's non-emergency phone number at 203-622-8004 (24 hours) or 911 for any emergency.
