BROOKFIELD, CT — The man pulled from Candlewood Lake by police Thursday has died, according to police. Police have identified the man as Wayne Pogers, 76. Pogers was working on his boat and doing other chores in his backyard when he went missing, according to a report given by his wife to police. The wife called 911 about 6:21 p.m. to report her husband's disappearance. First responders found Pogers approximately 8 feet underwater, according to a news release from the BPD. An officer jumped into the water and pulled him to the surface. CPR was administered before Brookfield EMS transported Pogers to Danbury Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. This is the third water-related death in less than a week in Connecticut. A 16-year-old boy died after a swimming accident at Uncas Pond in Nehantic State Park Saturday afternoon in Lyme, WFSB 3 TV reporter. The teen was swimming with friends and ended up underwater, WTNH News 8 reported. He was found and taken to a local health care facility where he died, officials said. And on Sunday afternoon, Rodrigo Tocto, 33, of Orange, drowned in Lake Quonnipaug after his kayak capsized, WTNH News 8 reported. According to News 12 CT, the man stood in the kayak to retrieve a lost paddle when the craft capsized. The Guilford Fire Department Dive Team found the man, gave him CPR and then transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to WFSB 3 TV.
