Walkers Take On Cancer At Chatham Relay For Life

CHATHAM, NJ — Chatham Townships Relay for Life cancer walk is back and in person after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Relay for Life is the world's largest peer-to-peer fundraising event for cancer research. Relay for Life of Chatham, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society, will kick off on June 11 with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. on the Haas Field. Relay for Life honors everyone affected by cancer and seeks to honor and remember loved ones and survivors in the community. "We would love this event to grow outside the high school and incorporate all community members from the Chathams. We have a great high school team that has prepared heartfelt ceremonies and activities, and we can't wait for everyone to come and fight for our mission with us," said Amanda Sproviero, teacher advisor of the Students Against Cancer Club at Chatham High School. All community members are welcome to attend Relay for Life, which also will feature live entertainment, games, prizes, food and student-led fundraisers, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The walk will begin by honoring any local cancer survivors, and all event attendees are encouraged to line the track and cheer on the survivors during the survivor's lap. Once the sun sets, a ceremony paying tribute to those affected by cancer will be held. Luminarias can be purchased at the event in honor of those who have survived their battles with cancer and those who are still fighting; and in memory of a loved one. People are welcome to walk in support, donate to the cause or do both.
