SAN RAFAEL, CA — A Marin swim coach was arrested Wednesday in a juvenile sex trafficking sting, the San Rafael Police Department said.
John Chipponeri, 59 of San Rafael, was arrested on suspicion of meeting with a minor for a lewd purpose and booked at the Marin County Jail, police said.
Chipponeri coaches swimming at a local school and also teaches swimming for a private swim club, police said.
The SRPD's countywide human trafficking operation's stated goal is to arrest buyers and traffickers and rescue, educate, and offer services to victims of human trafficking.
The operation began with investigators placing ads on adult websites soliciting buyers seeking juveniles for sexual services.
Chipponeri during an exchange with decoy officers agreed on a price, date and time to meet up with the juvenile, but he failed to show up for the meeting, police said.
At about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Chipponeri was detained during a traffic stop the area of Lindaro Street and Andersen Drive and made several admissions regarding this case" after officers brought him to the San Rafael Public Safety Center for questioning, police said.
