OMAHA, NE — An 11-year-old is accused of brandishing a realistic-looking pellet gun at a person working for an after-school program outside an elementary school in Omaha, according to police. The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Highland Elementary School, police said. A person employed by a nonprofit involved with an after-school program was leaving the building when the child threatened the worker and flashed what looked to be a firearm, according to police. The employee returned to the school and called 911, and law enforcement found the child in the nearby neighborhood, police said. The child was in possession of a pellet gun that looked real, and was cited for making terroristic threats before being released to a guardian, according to police. The incident occurred two days after a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, left 19 elementary students and two teachers dead.
