Description

ALAMEDA, CA — Officers from multiple police agencies converged on Alameda Wednesday to crackdown on bad drivers. By the time the 11 officers headed home, they had written 130 tickets. The tickets were for stop sign and traffic light violations, unsafe speeds, cellphones violations, bicycle violations, unlicensed and suspended drivers, and failure to yield to pedestrians. The top violation with 32 citations: using cellphones while driving. Officers from the Hayward, San Leandro, and Newark police departments joined Alameda officers for the High Intensity Traffic Team (HITT) enforcement. Officers were asked to check the area around schools as the enforcement happened the day after a deadly school shooting in Texas. Residents frequently complain to the Alameda Police Department about speeders and stop sign runners around schools during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
