DETROIT — A teenager was arrested after police said he fired multiple shots at Detroit officers when police tried stopping the car. The driver who sped away from officers was also arrested by police, officials said. Deontay Hestle Jr., 18, was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm, fleeing and eluding and felony firearm, officials said. Robbie Kaigler, 18, was charged with two counts of fleeing and eluding as well as accessory after the fact, officials said. Police said officers tried stopping a reckless driver in the area of Davison Avenue and Dexter Street on Detroit's westside early Saturday morning. As officers approached the car, police said Hestle hung out the window of a car Kaigler was driving and fired eight shots at officers. Although no officers were struck by gunfire, they had to terminate the chase because a round struck the engine block of the police cruiser, officials said. Police made the arrest on May 24 after receiving a tip through the Detroit Rewards TV website.
