DEARBORN, MI — Hundreds of cars lined up outside the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn on Friday morning to receive free baby formula. Dearborn public health officials partnered with local non-profits to distribute free baby formula to residents at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center at 15801 Michigan Ave in Dearborn on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There has been a nationwide baby formula shortage since a Michigan plant was force to shut down after it was linked to a rare bacterial infection that sickened four babies, two of which died. The plant's shutdown exacerbated a nationwide baby formula shortage, which saw out-of-stock rates rise from 28 percent last month to 34 percent in the first 10 days of May. However, The Chicago-based retailer, Abbott, recently said the plant in Sturgis, Michigan could reopen on June 4, easing the nationwide baby formula shortage.
