BROOKWOOD, AL — Brookwood High School on Friday officially announced that assistant baseball coach Jacob Hamner has been promoted to head baseball coach ahead of the next school year. The news comes as beloved, do-it-all Brookwood coach Mike Bramblett has stepped down from baseball duties to focus solely on building up the Panthers football program. "I'm blessed to have the opportunity to be the coach of such a great school," Hamner told Patch on Friday. "We worked our tails off this past season to make Brookwood competitive again and came up one run short in both series during area play." The Panthers finished 14-19 overall last season, and 4-4 in AHSAA Class 6A, Region Area 7 play. Apart from his assistant work on the baseball diamond, Hamner also coached defensive backs for the Panthers football program in 2021. At the close of the 2021-2022 school year, Hamner finished his third year teaching and his first at Brookwood High School. During his first year at Brookwood, he taught two personal finance classes and a business technology applications class, in addition to business law and society and career prep. Prior to his time in Brookwood, Hamner worked the previous two years at nearby Hillcrest High. But it would be at Auburn High School where Hamner got his start in coaching, as he moved to Opelika to become the school's volunteer hitting coach for two years. He also graduated from Auburn University in 2019. A 2015 graduate of Hoover High School, Hamner played baseball for Bucs coach Adam Moseley.
