WORCESTER, MA — The family of a Worcester 5-year-old girl who died after an SUV driver hit her in a crosswalk will hold a vigil for the girl on Saturday near the scene of the collision. Candice Asare-Yeboah died this week after the late April incident. Asare-Yeboah was crossing Stafford Street in a crosswalk when Christopher Remillard, 57, of Leicester, hit the girl and her mother, according to police. "The pain is unbearable. But we take consolation in the memories we have of her short life with us and her blessing to others," the family wrote in a GoFundMe update after the girl's death. The Saturday rally will take place at 6:30 p.m. near the corner of Stafford and Young Streets. Remillard will head to Worcester District Court on June 16 to face a charge of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, according to the court clerk. He has also been charged with a host of other violations, including two counts of negligent operation of a vehicle; two counts of unsafe operation of a vehicle; two counts of violating crosswalk laws; two counts of driving outside of marked lanes; and two counts of speeding. Asare-Yeboah spent the last month of her life in a coma at UMass Memorial hospital, according to her family. Mother Asha Nyarki Asare was seriously injured, but returned home from the hospital on May 9, according to the family.
