Description

Gulf South Research Corporation (GSRC) is seeking to fill the Habitat Restoration Technician position in Carlsbad, CA to work on natural resource projects in the region. The Habitat Restoration Technician will work with many aspects of this diverse field including invasive species control, native plant installation, native plant propagation, GIS, vegetation monitoring, seeding, vegetation management and other tasks as directed by project needs. Specific duties may include but are not limited to: Herbicide application, brush cutter and chainsaw operation, 4-wheel driving, accurate plant identification, and equipment maintenance. The employee is required to monitor and adhere to crew work schedules, submit weekly timesheets, and participate in staff training. The Habitat Restoration Technician will work with crews of 3-12 field staff and will report directly to GSRC Crew Leaders and the CA Regional Operations Manager. This is a temporary/seasonal job and the employee will be hired initially for a 6-month work period with the opportunity for extension and promotion depending on performance and work availability. The employee will be expected to work 40 hrs a week with occasional opportunities for overtime and flexibility for sick days and other absences. This position will possession of a Maintenance Gardener Pest Control Certification issued by the California DPR, however, if the candidate does not possess this certification, they must be able to obtain it within the first two months of employment. GSRC will pay for all testing materials, licensing fees, and study time. Compensation will be $20/hr if the applicant possesses a current Maintenance Gardener Pest Control Certification (QAC) and $22/hr if the applicant posesses a Qualified Applicators License (QAL). If hired without the certification, the employee will be compensated $18/hr until the license is obtained.
