(Apparently I triggered someone—again—because my post was flagged. It sucks when someone disagrees but is silenced. So much for thoughtful discussion. But I’m going to repost it, if for no other reason to send the triggered into a safe place. What’s ironic is that the post that prompted my reply is still active though I could flag it if I was against free speech, the civil exchange of ideas, and just a jerk (as is/are whomever keeps flagging mine.) To be clear, I am 62-years old, a registered Republican, have been since 1996, open-minded to all candidates but skew Republican/conservative on most issues, and think Josh Shapiro is an opportunistic, under-qualified, pandering candidate for governor. I can understand you’re unhappy with his easy victory for the Democrat gubernatorial candidacy but giving false information to bolster your arguments is self-defeating and destroys any credibility you may have had. 1. Pennsylvania doesn’t have the highest price per gallon for gas. It’s not even in the top 10. Historically, California and Hawaii top the list. Today (05/19/22) is no different, California in first place with Hawaii right behind it. This information is updated constantly and easily found online from multiple, credible sources. Here’s one just two hours old as I type this (10:00 AM, 05/19/22): https://www.fastcompany.com/90753830/this-map-of-gas-prices-shows-which-states-are-paying-the-highest-and-lowest-at-the-pump 2. Shapiro isn’t and never has been the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania. John Fetterman has been Gov. Wolf’s number 2 continually since Wolf was first elected in 2015. 3. The lieutenant governor does not and cannot “approve” any legislation. No elected official does. The legislature creates and writes laws, the governor can either sign the legislation which enacts the law, not sign the legislation and allow to automatically be enacted after a set time, or veto the legislation, sending it back to the legislature to be overridden, amended, or tabled. 4. Election Day may be over but late balloting isn’t and this is not new. Absentee ballots postmarked no later than Election Day, not received by Election Day (but no later than three days after Election Day) are still eligible to be counted to allow for military personnel not stationed in PA and citizens of the commonwealth unable to get to the polls for any reason to have their voices heard. All 67 counties have to certify their results within 20 days. 5. Regarding “roads by your house”: most (all?) roads in residential/business areas are maintained by the municipality in which they’re located. Any state roads within the municipality are the responsibility of the state. It’s why PENNDOT doesn’t plow the snow from your street or pave it when necessary. Conversely, Mount Joy, as an example, doesn’t plow or repair SR 283. IF a municipality does plow a state road (again using Mount Joy as the example), the borough will clear SR 230 (aka Main St.) because it can’t wait for PENNDOT to make its way there, the municipality is reimbursed for the cost of doing it. 6. You’re making claims without any sources to back them up (“today it was reported that hundreds of ballots were delivered…”). Which news outlet(s) or government entity “reported” this information? This is similar to giving credit to the mysterious “they” used in arguments. “They say…”. Who are/is “they”? Manufacturing, accepting second-hand (or third or fourth or…) information without credible sourcing, and downright lying don’t help the cause. No one takes you seriously and hurts responsible party members/fellow conservatives trying to make a difference and effect change. Finally, find someone you trust to proofread your posts and trust that spellcheck can be a great asset while typing.
