ABOUT BROOKLYN LAB Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools (LAB) is a network of open enrollment, college-prep, public charter schools that opened its first middle school in downtown Brooklyn in 2014. LAB opened its second middle school in the fall of 2016 and will open its first two high schools in the fall of 2017, both in downtown Brooklyn. LAB is dedicated to serving the highest need students regardless of their academic level, English language proficiency, or disability. To achieve this, we couple high expectations approach with an innovative, Common Core-aligned, next-generation learning model designed to drastically improve the academic success of our scholars. POSITION DESCRIPTION Responsible for performing multiple repair and maintenance tasks throughout the day, which could include, but is not limited to: carpentry work; electrical; plumbing; painting; general facility repairs. RESPONSIBILITIES -Electrical repairs and maintenance: lightbulbs, wiring, circuit breakers, fuses -Carpentry & General Construction: woodwork, sanding, painting, etc -General Plumbing: Toilets, faucets, fix leaks, etc -Facility Repairs: doors, doorknobs, locks, broken tiles, polish floors, staining, etc -Trash removal WORK ENVIRONMENT -School building environment -Use of cleaning solutions. -Exposure to dust, noise, and temperature changes PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS -Ability to reach and to lift materials weighing up to 70 lbs. -Ability to pass employment and fingerprint screening QUALIFICATIONS -Attention to detail -Ability to multi-task -Knowledge in many aspects of repair & maintenance work -Dependability -Verbal communication -Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions -Two or more years handyman or related experience -Knowledge of cleaning solutions and materials -Must be a team player and treat co-workers with respect -Regular and reliable attendance is expected COMPENSATION RANGE $40,000-55,000, commensurate with experience and education.
