Pursuit Reached 90 MPH Before Deadly Hit-And-Run: Milwaukee Sheriff

MILWAUKEE, WI — Police are looking for two men involved in a pursuit that ended with a deadly hit-and-run crash Tuesday, Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell Lucas said Thursday in a news conference. The chase reached speeds up to 90 mph, and the crash killed a Milwaukee man and hospitalized a woman and child. Teion Cooper, 40, died in the crash, a demographic report showed. A 33-year-old woman and an 18-month-old child were hospitalized for non-fatal injuries after the car the three were in rolled over. The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m., when a driver being chased by sheriff's deputies ran a stop sign at the 5500 block of N. 37th Street, officials said. Sheriff's deputies didn't see the crash that killed Cooper, but witnesses told law enforcement that two men ran away from the crash and into an alley on the 5500 block of N. 37th Street, Lucas said. Deputies reported driving at speeds up to 90 mph during the chase. Their squad car hit a parked car and stopped on W. Sheridan Avenue, just a few blocks away from the 37th Street intersection where the fleeing driver collided with Cooper's car, Lucas said. Firefighters had to cut open the car to get Cooper, the woman and child out, TMJ4 reported. First responders tried life-saving efforts on the man, but he died at the scene. A 26-year-old deputy with two years of service and a 32-year-old deputy with three years of service were put on administrative duty after the crash, Lucas said. Neither deputy was hurt.
