Press release from the JAX Chamber: May 26, 2022 Jacksonville, Fla. –– May 24, 2022 –– The Girl Scouts of Gateway Council closed out the 2022 Girl Scout Cookie season last month with over 1.3 million cookies sold, both in person and online. Girl Scouts from across the council, inclusive of 35 counties across North Florida, shipped more than 83,000 cookies through digital sales, and sold an average of 385 packages per girl: an increase of 6% over the previous cookie season. An estimated 36,000 cookies were also donated as part of the Gift of Caring initiative, a partnership with Soldier's Angels to deliver cookies to servicemen and women stationed abroad. Cookies purchased as part of the initiative began distribution to soldiers and veterans on May 15, 2022 Cookie season is an important part of the Girl Scouts experience, and supports the organization's four pillars: STEM education, the outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship. Every cookie purchased during the season fuels local Girl Scouts' adventures throughout the year, and helps girls explore their interests, discover their passions and take action on issues they care about. Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls get a taste of being entrepreneurs and learn important business skills that set them up for success in life. "Cookie season is about so much more than just delicious treats," said Mary Anne Jacobs, CEO of Gateway Council. "The season teaches entrepreneurial, public speaking and business skills to girls who will be leaders in their chosen fields in the future. We are incredibly proud of how hard the girls worked this year to raise funds for their troops, and we are looking forward to even more success next year." Troop proceeds from this year's cookie season totaled more than $1 million. Funds raised during the season will support individual troop initiatives like local community service projects, STEM activities, trips and summer camp. Many troops also use cookie proceeds to help fund Gold, Silver or Bronze award endeavors for higher level girl scouts. If you're already missing Cookie Season, not to worry; Girl Scouts will begin selling other Sweets and Treats this fall. A variety of delicious options, like specialty nuts and candy, as well as magazine subscriptions will be offered during this fall fundraising campaign. Items can be purchased directly from a Girl Scout or her online store. Favorites like the Mint Chocolate Trefoils, which come in a collectable tin, or Peanut Butter Penguins make great gifts and will arrive just in time for the holiday season.
