Description
Indigo Arts Alliance is proud to host a fundraiser and film screening in support of More Women+ Surf! Join us for this in-person fundraiser and film screening to support More Women Surf+, co-Founded by our Winter 2021 artist-in-residence, Pamela Chèvez. More Women Surf+ is a collective of women empowering other women+ and diversifying the cold water surf scene. They create a welcoming space for bipoc, trans and non-binary folx through community-based events, surf lessons, and creative projects. This event will feature drinks, small bites, and an exclusive film screening of Bangla Surf Girls by filmaker and director, Lalita Krishna. Tickets start at $20.00 with all proceed going to More Women+ Surf. Funds will be used towards the creation of a surf club where girls from under-represented communities can find a space to learn and enjoy the benefits of surfing, its connection to the ocean, and the empowerment that comes with trying new things. This event is hosted under Indigo Arts Alliance's ongoing film series "Indigo Picks". Bringing our mission of visibility and representation to life, the selected films tell stories that sit at the intersection of art and social activism through the lived experiences of Black and Brown people. PLEASE NOTE: For the health and safety expectations, all attendees at indoor events and performances are required to provide proof of up to date vaccines against the COVID-19 virus, or a negative PCR test from within the previous 48 hours or a negative ‘Rapid Test’ from the previous 12 hours. It is necessary to also show a legal photo identification along with your vaccination proof, or test result. All proof may be original or digital. Participants are asked to remain masked. There will be extra masks and hand sanitizer stations provided. Learn More About Bangla Surf Girls:Bangla Surf Girls is an immersive documentary that takes us into the heart of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, where we witness the transformation of young girls who join a local surf club and dare to dream of escape from the threat of early childhood marriage. The documentary captures the raw emotions, the family dynamics, and the complex pressures of poverty. Balancing the freedom of the waves with the restrictive realities of their circumstances, we experience the thrill and struggle of coming-of-age in a developing country.
