TRUMBULL, CT — A Trumbull man was arrested Monday after he was seen stumbling in the roadway and later found to have a loaded gun in his possession, according to police. In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said Trumbull resident Zachary Hill, 34, was found by police in the roadway near his home as he was carrying an armful of items and trying to conceal a silver object, which was later determined to be a firearm. According to Weir, the department received several calls around 8 p.m. about a man dressed in black carrying clothes and acting suspicious. Hill told police he had been kicked out of his house after an argument, Weir said. "As officers spoke with Hill, his eyes appeared to be red and glassy and his eyelids appeared heavy as they were half shut," Weir said in a news release. "Hill also had difficulty articulating the entire event and was slurring his words." Hill was asked to put his items down on the grass. As he did so, officers noticed him trying to conceal a silver object under the clothes, Weir said. Officers checked the pile of clothing and discovered a silver Ruger pistol. Police also found a bag containing packages of a green leafy substance and two empty prescription bottles, Weir said. Further investigation revealed Hill had a valid State of Connecticut pistol permit and the Ruger pistol was legally registered to him, however both items were seized by police due to his intoxicated state, Weir said. Trumbull EMS later evaluated Hill, but he refused further medical attention, Weir said. Hill was charged with illegal carrying of a firearm while under the influence of drugs/alcohol, failure to carry a pistol permit and pedestrian under the influence causing a traffic hazard.
