NEW HAVEN, CT — The news of yet another school shooting, this one in Uvalde, Texas that stole the lives of elementary school kids and an educator is horrifically reminiscent of Sandy Hook. Wednesday, New Haven Public Schools Superintendent Iline Tracey reached out to staff and educators in the district. Here's her message: Good morning to everyone, I am having flashbacks to Sandy Hook in Newtown over 10 years ago when so many children were senselessly slaughtered. Now, to hear of the same carnage in a Texas elementary school, caused my heart to sink. I can just imagine the excruciating pain of the families and community. The sense of loss must be unbearable. People die daily, but when things like this happen, especially to children and staff in the manner in which it occurs, it is painful, and we are left to ask why. As a mother, there is a certain feeling in my gut. Then, not too long ago, 10 black folks were senselessly murdered in a supermarket. What is happening in our world? Should we continue to be angry and hateful? This type of thing, if it is not severe mental health, is coming from a place of hate and anger and is just sheer evil. WE are not safe anywhere, not even in church. Please let us keep hope, love one another, and be kind and compassionate. Please share a moment of silence for the lives lost.
