LONG BEACH, NY — The latest mass shooting that killed at least 21 people, including 19 students and a teacher at an elementary school in Texas, is causing educators in our communities to react.
Dr. Jennifer Gallagher, the Long Beach superintendent, posted a statement on the school district's website. She called the deadly incident, "just unthinkable."
Gallagher told families that she was "heartbroken and horrified" by the shooting.
She said the school will provide counseling for any students who are struggling emotionally.
Regarding any copycat crimes in their schools, Gallagher said they are reviewing their security protocols "ensuring our campuses are secure."
There are no threats to the schools, she was told by the Long Beach and Nassau County police.
