Whereas, Maddie's Promise is a nonprofit organization that was started in memory of Hingham resident Madelyn "Maddie" McCoy in 2019; and
Whereas, Maddie has used her courage, gentle spirit, and generosity to bring a smile to everyone she met; and
Whereas, Maddie created art to sell to raise money for pediatric cancer while receiving treatment at Boston Children's Hospital; and
Whereas, Maddie has been an inspiration to all who met her and hear about her courageous battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancerous tumor of the soft tissue; and
Whereas, Maddie has inspired the creation of non-profit Maddie's Promise; and
Whereas, Maddie's Promise seeks to help others forward with the goal of closing the funding gap of rare pediatric cancers;
Now, therefore, we, Joseph M. Fisher, William C. Ramsey, and Elizabeth F. Klein, Select Board of the Town of Hingham, do hereby proclaim Monday, May 23, 2022, as Maddie's Promise Day in the Town of Hingham and urge all citizens to observe this day by emulating the spirit and attitude of Maddie McCoy and being the change the world needs.
