Description
Your post is a very good one, thought provoking. The country is deeply divided. Politicians are only a reflection of the people they represent. Young folk are alarmed, and feel Armageddon is near. I remember worse times, in the 1960's when we were involved in an extremely unpopular war, and everyone was lying to us. At 18, like it or not you were conscripted into the military, and sent over seas possibly to your death. Those who survived saw, heard and experienced things no one should. At home, blacks were still being lynched, and could not eat in most restaurants, go to most movie theaters and not even attend a lot of churches. Gays were hunted down by police and ruthlessly prosecuted, their lives destroyed. And those were the lucky ones, others were tortured and murdered by homophobes with impunity. Women were property and often had little or no rights. Wearing a flag, smoking a joint could give you decades in prison. Long hair (on men) was assured an ass beating. Rape was not prosecuted. Nor was killing your wife due to adultery.
Nothing on this plane of existence is permanent. Even the mightiest of governments all fail and become history. I think it best in this life not to become too attached. When I allow politicians do what politicians do, and focus on how I might make the life of someone who crosses my path a bit happier, I have little time to worry about temporal affairs. One very old man's opinion only.
